Steps Towards Adoption
1. Fill out an application
Apply for adoption today by clicking the button below. Pups are $2500 each, with $500 of that as a deposit to hold a pup. This prepares us for our first phone call together. (If you are interested in housing a breeding dog in our Guardianship program, joining our waitlist or notification list, please indicate that on the application and see #5 below for more information.)
2. Receive a call from us and schedule a visit or FaceTime.
When we have reviewed your application, we will call you to discuss your needs and answer any questions you have. If you are local, we can schedule a visit on-site or we can FaceTime to interact with pups. Once you are certain you would like to move forward, we email the care agreements.
3. Fill out the puppy care agreement and submit a deposit to reserve a pup.
There is a $500 non-refundable (once-transferable) deposit to hold a pup. We will send a detailed Puppy Agreement and Deposit Statement to your email. This form needs to be filled out and submitted along with the deposit to hold a pick of the litter. Puppies are selected in the order of deposits received. We can hold deposits and payments in trust for those who want to be on a waiting list or a future puppy (on layaway/ pre-pay) for the upcoming season.
4. Arrange a pick-up date and pay the balance & bring your precious furbaby home!
Puppies must remain with us until they are 8 weeks old. This allows time for socialization and weaning. They will come home with a scented blanket for comfort, CKC paperwork, and vaccination records. (See the Products We Love tab for puppy-stuff inspiration for your home).
As soon as a pick up date and time is arranged, the owner is to make a veterinarian appointment for 48-72 hours after homing. The date, time, and veterinarian are to be communicated to the Breeder for documentation purposes.
Local Pickup in SC - Any parent can pick up at our residence. Payments can be made via money order, debit, or credit card up to one week before the pick-up date. Any remaining balance is to be paid in full, in cash, on the day of pickup. Please allow one hour to review the necessary documentation and records. CKC registration and Buddy ID registration are the responsibility of the owner, and we are happy to assist with this on the day of pickup.
Travel arrangements outside of local pickup in the Lowcountry will be at the expense of the Pup Parent.
Please note: We accompany our dogs on any delivery outside of our kennel.
Driving Delivery Fees: $0.50 per mile, $30 per hour in-route travel fee, and overnight accommodations if travel time exceeds 6 hours.
Flight Delivery Fees:
Owners will either:
1. Fly to Charleston International to pick up their pup or
2. Provide a round-trip airline ticket for the Breeder and a one-way pass for the pup, overnight accommodations if round-trip travel time exceeds 6 hours, plus $30 per hour in-route travel fee, which begins when we leave our kennel and ends when delivery is complete.
5. Special Programs
Our Waitlist for those who are ready to reserve a future puppy. . .
As a private breeder, we allow our dams to come into heat naturally. This means we won’t have puppies available at all times, but rest assured, nature will take its course, and in due time, little pupkins will soon make their debut. Until then, we offer a Waitlist and a Notification List.
Waitlist: This is for parents who are ready to make a deposit and say “yes” to a future pup from Palmetto Moon Puppies! We send you paperwork and hold your deposit in trust until our next litter arrives. Puppy choices are made in the order of deposits received, so it is advantageous to get in early and save your place to secure a puppy.
We will notify you regarding which parents will be pairing, and you will decide at that time to either activate your deposit or keep it inactive for a different upcoming litter from different parents. Deposits are non-refundable, transferable once after activation, then forfeited.
Joining the Waitlist is also a great way to pre-pay for your pup over time, like a layaway program, before he or she arrives. You can pay in any installment amounts as long as the balance is paid on or before your pup’s homing date.
Our Notification List is for those who want to stay in the future-litter loop. . .
Simply fill in the Notification List section on the application and we will make sure to send you all the information regarding upcoming litters and puppies directly to your email and if you ever decide to move forward, the door’s always open! Please note: Joining this list means no deposit is made and no puppy choice is secured. Those who are on the Waitlist have deposits and will be first in line for future pupcakes.
More about the Guardianship Program
Our Guardians are parents who are in partnership with us. They provide a loving family environment for our breeding dogs housed outside of our residence. The perk is that there is no upfront adoption fee for a Guardianship Dog; however, Guardians are responsible for all nutrition, medications, grooming and veterinary care for the life of their pup.
Males are working as needed, and females come to the our residence about one week before whelping and remain with us for the full 8 weeks until their puppies are weaned and homed. At that point, moms return to their Guardians. Local guardians can see their momma any time they would like to visit.
We give our females breaks, and we cover the cost of alteration when they are retired. We provide all nutrition and care while the Dams are with us. We also retain official ownership of the dog and transfer full ownership to the Guardian once the dog is altered/ retired.
